Uniform

At Woodlands, we are proud of our school uniform. We ask parents and carers to support us by ensuring that children wear the full school uniform each day.

We believe that a smart uniform helps to:

promote the ethos of our school
give children a sense of belonging and identity
set an appropriate tone for learning

Pupils are encouraged to wear a school jumper or cardigan with the Woodlands logo. However, plain royal blue jumpers, cardigans or sweatshirts are also acceptable and are available from most supermarkets.

Pre-loved uniform

We have good-quality pre-loved uniform available from our pre-loved uniform rail in school. All we ask in return is a donation, whatever is affordable to you, and that the items are given a loving home.

Winter uniform

Grey trousers or shorts, pinafore dress, skirt or skort
White short-sleeved polo shirt or blouse
Royal blue jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
White, royal blue or grey socks or tights
Black school shoes (trainers, ankle boots, jelly shoes and slip-on shoes should not be worn).
Winter coat, anorak or duffle coat

Summer uniform

Grey trousers or shorts, pinafore dress, skirt, skort or blue and white summer dress
White, short-sleeved polo shirt or blouse
Royal blue jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
White, royal blue or grey socks or tights
Black school shoes (trainers, ankle boots, jelly shoes and slip-on shoes should not be worn).
Sun hats may be worn when appropriate

PE Uniform

Children should come to school wearing their PE uniform on their class PE days.

Royal blue or white T-shirt
Royal blue PE shorts or skort
Plain navy, non-branded tracksuit with a zip jacket
White or blue socks
Trainers in blue, black or white (velcro fastening is preferable for younger children).

Hair, make-up and jewellery

Hair should be neat and appropriate for school. Long hair should be tied back.

Hair should not be coloured for school and shaved patterns or designs are not permitted.

Hair accessories should be simple, reasonable in size and in school colours: blue, white or black. Headbands should be narrow and preferably made from material.

Make-up is not appropriate for school and should not be worn. This includes nail varnish, which should be kept for weekends, holidays and special occasions.

For health and safety reasons, children should not wear jewellery to school.

The only exceptions are:

small stud earrings
items worn for religious reasons

For PE lessons, jewellery must be removed. Younger children may find it difficult to remove and replace earrings independently, so we advise that earrings are not worn on PE days.

Covering earrings with tape is not recommended as it does not fully remove the risk. If parents choose to cover earrings, this must be done before school. Staff are not able to remove earrings or cover them with tape for children.

If your child is wearing earrings on a PE day and they are unable to safely remove or cover them, parents may be contacted to come into school to remove them. This is because PE is part of the National Curriculum and we have a duty to ensure that all children can take part safely.

We understand that ear piercings can take up to six weeks to heal. We therefore recommend that, where possible, ears are pierced at the beginning of the summer holidays to allow time for healing before children return to school.

Watches and Personal Devices

Children may wear a plain wristwatch if they can tell the time or are learning to tell the time.

Smartwatches, Fitbits and other personal mobile devices should not be brought to school. This is for safeguarding reasons and because there is no need for children to use personal mobile devices on the school site or during school visits.

Personal Belongings and lost property

Children should not bring valuable items or toys into school from home. We cannot be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings.

All items, including school bags, lunchboxes, coats, jumpers and cardigans, must be clearly marked with your child’s name. It is very difficult to return unnamed items to their owner.

Named items will be returned to children whenever possible. Unnamed items are stored on the shelving in the front entrance. From time to time, unclaimed items may be donated or added to our pre-loved uniform collection.
